What is a Gaming PC?

A Gaming PC is generally considered a traditional desktop computer with added processing power. This usually comes from the Graphics Card installed into the machine, giving it the capability to enjoy smooth gameplay on a desktop PC. There are other factors that come into play like:
  • Processor power; does it have the processing power to play games? Often gaming computers have better processors compared to standard home desktop computers
  • Memory; don’t get this confused with storage! We will get onto that next. This is often called RAM, it’s the short-term memory of the PC and allows you to run multiple applications at the same time. It also contributes to performance when gaming. Most gaming PC’s now come with a minimum of 8GB of memory.
  • Storage; can be quite an important performance factor. Most gaming PC’s now come with a Solid State Storage Drive which has now overtaken traditional mechanical hard drives. For performance, this can make a difference in the loading times of games and the general operation of the computer. You can also have multiple drives in one PC giving you plenty of storage for games and applications
  • Cooling & Appearance; more often than not, gaming PC’s have better cooling, often with the potential to have liquid processor cooling. They also look great! With a huge range of cases to choose form, with or without tempered glass sides/fronts and flashing LED lighting/fans, you can often customize your gaming PC to make it look exactly how you want it!

Games Consoles

[/comrepair_section_heading][vc_column_text]

Pro’s

  • Suits all generations, a low learning curve. Generally easy to use
  • Space; takes up much less space compared to a PC
  • Easy to set up. Box ready, just set up and go
  • Generally cheaper for price-to-performance
  • You don’t need to upgrade hardware
  • Most online multiplayer games are now cross compatible
  • Console-exclusive games are still a thing; though becoming less common now due to PC gaming being so huge
  • Console games are built for consoles, meaning fewer bugs due to there only being 1 or 2 sets of hardware that the game has to be built for
  • No minimum system requirements, though a gaming PC generally play all games at some sort of performance level

Con’s

  • Though you don’t need to upgrade hardware over time, storage is often limited
  • When a new console arrives, depending on the game you want to play, you may need to buy it. In the long run, this can overall cost more than simply upgrading a PC
  • Console games generally cost more to buy than a PC game
  • Requires a yearly/monthly subscription to play online, which can be costly over a year
  • When they physically go wrong, it’s harder/nearly impossible to fix, making it costly, especially if you need to buy a whole new console
  • Console-exclusive games are slowly becoming no more. Most games are now available on PC’s

Gaming PC’s

[/comrepair_section_heading][vc_column_text]

Pro’s

  • Can be used for everything; home use, school/work use, media etc
  • Ease of use; PC’s are plug and play, just download the games you want, create an account and away you go
  • Easily upgradeable; need more storage? Just add it in. Works out cheaper in the long run compared to console
  • Can achieve much higher performance and visuals on a PC
  • Virtual reality ready and better performance on PC
  • More games available; PC games have most console games available aswell as PC only games and more
  • Customizable in every way; make your PC how you want it to look. Games can also be customized or ‘modded’
  • Mouse and keyboard (and other peripherals) are better than a controller; better aim, faster etc. Though, mouse and keyboard has a steeper learning curve than a controller
  • Can use a controller if you want to play certain games with it
  • PC Games are generally quite a bit cheaper than console games
  • No monthly/yearly subscriptions, unlike Xbox/Playstation which requires it to play online
  • Most online multiplayer games are now cross compatible

Con’s

  • If you want to play competitively, you might have to spend slightly more than you would on a console
  • Space for a desk is needed, which can be a problem for some households
  • Can be used on a TV but is generally better on a monitor, which is also an extra
